Honestly, through most of high school as well as college, I was anaverage essay writer. When in a while, I would write anexcellent essay, but mostly I skated by with B’s and Aminuses. I know personally how boring essay writing can be, and also, how hard it can be to write a good one. Write an essay? Don’t pull your hair out.
Here are ten tips to write a great essay.
However, to the end of my time as a student, I made anadvance. I reckoned out how to not only write a great essay, I erudite how to have fun while doing it. That is right. Why Write an Essay Is So Hard? Here are a few reasons:
- You would rather be scrolling through Facebook.
- You are trying to write something your teacher or professor will like.
- You are attempting to get an A instead of writing something that’s respectable.
- You want to do the least expense of work possible in writing.
The biggest motive writing an essay is so hard is because we typically focus on those outside rewards like getting a passing score or our teacher’s approval. The problem is that when you concentrate on theforeignsupport it not only makes writing much less fun, it also makes it meaningfully harder.
Your essay is just a story you can imagine
Every story is about conflict as well as change, and the truth is that essays are about conflict or even change, too! The alteration is that in an essay, the struggle is between dissimilar ideas; the change is in the way we should observe those thoughts. That means that the finestpapers are about surprise, “You probably thinkit isone way, but in reality, you must think of it this other way.” See tip #3 for more on this.
Before you start writing, ask physically, “How can I have the most fun writing this?”
It isokay to feel unmotivated when writing an essay. I am a writer, and honestly, I feel indifferent to write all the time. However, I have a super-ninja, ajudo-mind trick I like to use to help motivate myself.
As you study, ask yourself, “What surprises me about this subject?”
The temptation, when you are writing an essay, is to write what you reason your teacher or professor wants to read. Don’t do this. Instead, ask yourself, “What do I find stimulating about this subject? What wonders me?”
If you cannot think of anything that surprises you, anything you find interesting, then you are not searching well enough, because antiquity, science, and literature are all overflowing over with surprises. When you look at how great ideas happen, the story is always, “We used to think the world was this way. We found out we were totally wrong and that the world is quite different from what we thought.”
Overwhelmed? Just write five original sentences than the rest will flow
The standard three-point essay is made up of just five original sentences, surrounded by supporting paragraphs that back up those five sentences. If you are feeling overwhelmed, just write five sentences
- Be “source bulky.”
In college, I discovered a trick that helped me go from a B-average student to an Astudent, but before I explain how it works, let me warn you. This technique is powerful, but it might not work for all teachers or professors. Use with caution.
- Write the body first, the introduction and the conclusion latter.
Outlines are often the hardest part to write becauseyou aretrying to précis your whole essay before you’ve even written it yet. In its place, try writing your introduction last, charitable yourself the body of the paper to number out the main point of your essay topic.
- Best essays answer the question, “What?” Excellent papersexplain the “Why?” The best documentsreveal the “In what way?”
If you become stuck tiresome to make your argument, oryou arestruggling to reach the obligatory word count, try focusing on the question.
If you focus on how, you’ll always have enough to write.
- Don’t be afraid to jump around.
Essay writing can be a dance. You do not have to stay in one place and write from beginning to end. Give yourself the freedom to write as if you arecircling around your topic rather than making a single, frankquarrel. Then, when you oversee, you can make sure all lines up correctly.
- Here are some words and phrases youdo not want to use.
You’ll notice I use a lot of you’d, which is great for a blog post. However, in an essay, it is better to omit the second-person.

It is okay to use Wikipedia
Wikipedia is not just one of the top 5 websites in the world; it can be an excellent tool for research. However, most teachers and professors do not consider Wikipedia a valid source for use in essays.
Lastly, the thing I regret most about high school and college is that I treated it as something I had to do rather than something I wanted to do. The truth is; education is an opportunity many people in the world do not have access. It is a gift, not just something that makes your life more difficult. I do notwant you to make the mistake of just “receiving by” through school, waiting urgently for summer breaks and, ultimately, graduation. How would your lifespan be better if you actively relished writing an essay? What would aschool look like if you wanted to suck it dry of all the gifts it has to give you?
